ABOUT LEMOSHO ROUTE

The Lemosho Route is widely regarded as one of the most scenic and successful routes to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Approaching the mountain from the western side, this route offers breathtaking landscapes, low traffic during the early days, and excellent acclimatization—making it one of the best choices for climbers seeking both beauty and a high summit success rate.
The trek begins at Lemosho Gate, passing through lush rainforest before ascending onto the expansive Shira Plateau, where panoramic views of Kibo Peak unfold. As the route progresses, climbers experience diverse ecosystems including moorland, alpine desert, and glacial zones.
From Shira Camp, the Lemosho Route joins the Machame Route, continuing through iconic points such as Lava Tower, Barranco Wall, Karanga Camp, and Barafu Camp before the final summit push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the highest point in Africa. The descent is made via the Mweka Route.
Typically completed in 6, 7 or 8 days, the Lemosho Route provides ample time for acclimatization, significantly reducing the risk of altitude sickness. It is ideal for climbers who want a well-paced trek, stunning scenery, and a quieter start compared to other routes.
